Having trained in Triathlon since the age of 45 (10 years) and having completed 8 Ironman races around the world, I’m here to tell you about something that can and will take your athletic endurance to the next level.
My Ironman coach and exercise physiologist will agree that my stats and abilities have been improving steadily for years, and that I’ve gotten a boost in training stamina from taking YoungBlood during the 6 weeks leading up to my Ironman 2017 in New Zealand.
But stats are just numbers when you are standing on the edge of the water, about to swim 2.4 mi on a windy lake with chops well over 1 foot in height. Not only did I feel always on top of my game during every training session leading up to my event, I felt NO fatigue during the peak training phase which, always pushes my limits. I’ve been tracking my sleep and resting heart rate with this jawbone tracker I got. I was exhausted cause I never got a good night’s sleep. My averages (about 21 days ) up to last Friday were as follows:
Total sleep 5hrs 14 min
Deep sleep 1 to 1.5 hrs
Rem sleep 44 mins
Average resting heart rate taken as soon as I wake up: 67.
On average I woke up 4 times during the night and was awake for an average of 1.5 hrs.
After just 1 week:
Total sleep 6.5 hrs (+23%)
Deep sleep 2 hrs 10 min (+70%)
Rem sleep 1.5 hrs (+109%)
Average resting heart rate in the morning: 58 (-15% indicating lower heart stress)
On average I woke up 2 times during the night for an average of 55 mins. .
As far as energy goes, it’s improved as the week has gone on. Pretty confident I could have put in another hour with my trainer tonight ’cause I felt totally energized today, not the usual drag myself to the gym and just surviving the workout. With this energy, I’m having an easier time dealing with food cravings, and am already starting to see some weight come off, and it’s only been 3 weeks!
Back to the sleep thing. I’m wondering about the hormonal effect – in a good way that is. Hot flashes are a BITCH during the day…but even more unbearable during the night. I think this why my sleep sucked. The last month has been great for that. While I still wake up from time to time, it’s not because I’m laying in a pool of sweat! That alone is a god send.

Competitive Soccer, University, Life, &… Burnout
I have been a competitive soccer player for about 20 years and have intensely and consistently trained for strength, lean muscle, cardiovascular fitness, and general health. Playing soccer at the university level and attempting to balance training on the field for 2-hour sessions 5 times per week, intense lifts in the weight room at least 3 times per week on top of classes, exams, papers, family, and social life, I’ve learned that eventually “burnout” happens and something gives; whether that is, muscle mass, mental health, general energy levels, wakefulness throughout the day, mood, or even just willingness to joyfully socialize and to be fully present with other people.
I didn’t realize how heavy a toll intense physical training mixed with the ups and downs of a busy lifestyle takes on the endocrine system and hormonal balance in the body, and how directly that affects mental and physical wellbeing.
Since graduating university and hanging up the soccer boots, I’ve continued and even upped my hectic lifestyle and replaced soccer-specific training with 5-6 days per week of heavy-lifting for 60-120 minute sessions including power lifts, olympic lifts, and bodybuilding style lifting using all types of free-weights, cables and machines. Needless to say, fatigue and burnout set in again; I was sleeping 7-8 hours/night but still waking up with a drowsiness that lasted throughout much of the day… I was often in a “fog” socially.
I became inefficient with work and had to really hype myself up before doing anything super active. On top of that, even when changing up the volume and variety of my lifting, I hit a major plateau in strength and size gains. I began searching for a supplement that would help me to keep training at the intensity I loved and was used to (as haven’t been able to shake the athlete mentality) and help with some of the symptoms of CNS (Central Nervous System) fatigue and hormonal imbalance.
The Program – Lean Down and Maintain Muscle Mass and Strength:
I was introduced to and decided to do an experiment: I had recently gained about 10 pounds over the winter months and was sitting at about 182 lbs and 12% body fat. I began taking 2 capsules of YoungBlood per day while beginning to incorporate intense interval training into my program and adjusting my calorie and macro-nutrient intake, lowering sugars and carbs to facilitate pretty aggressive fat loss, while keeping my heavy lifting protocol exactly the same. I then upped the dose of YoungBlood to 3 capsules daily while training at a high intensity 6 days/week for 6 weeks with the volume of lifting peaking at week 4. What I expected was fat loss but at the expense of quite a bit of both strength and muscle loss along with it, and a greater level of mental fatigue. I was very pumped (and surprised) to see that after 6 weeks, I had leaned out to about 8% body fat, and had maintained ALL of my lean mass. By the end, I was also lifting the same amount of weight for the same number of reps and sets in my major strength lifts (back squat, overhead press, bench press, barbell row, pull ups, dead lifts) as when I had started the cutting program.

During this phase of training, I consistently got the same amount of sleep as before, but definitely experienced huge improvements in my mental clarity in the morning and throughout the day. I found that I was much more efficient in my work, more alert, and overall just felt way more refreshed…and just generally awesome!
My days certainly didn’t slow down, but YoungBlood helped improve my productivity throughout the craziness of the day, and significantly boosted my recovery. The energy that it provided wasn’t like the buzz of a pre-workout powder but more of just a clear, healthy, sustained energy. My sleeps were deep and restful. I felt for sure that my cortisol level was way more balanced, and based on the physical results (maintenance of strength and mass while getting much leaner), I believe my testosterone level was definitely bolstered and sustained during this rigorous phase of training as well. Overall, both the outward physical results that I could see and the mental results I could feel through this phase of training while taking YoungBlood were awesome.
